Upcoming Workshops

2022
July 19, 2022 12:00-3:00pm Eastern Towards Authenticity: Critical Appraisal of Data Management Plans Sponsored by NIH/NLM This workshop, geared towards program officers, will be an introduction to the many considerations of research data management and sharing, specifically around the role of data management plans (DMPs) in grant proposals. In addition to learning how to evaluate DMPs from the perspective of a data curator, attendees will learn how their roles fit into the entirety of the research data lifecycle, will learn how to balance sharing sensitive data while protecting participant privacy, and will brainstorm ways to integrate best practices for DMPs into the grant proposal process. This session will combine lecture, activities, and discussion — attendees should come prepared to participate. This is part of the Data Curation Network / NIH Event series.

About DCN Curator Workshops

Workshops are taught by Data Curation Network instructors and have reached over 150 attendees from more than 100 academic libraries, national agencies, museums, and beyond. Get in touch if you would like to organize a workshop for your staff!

All of our workshops teach the CURATED steps that were developed in the planning phase of the DCN and updated with each iteration of the workshop.

Learning Objectives

  • Increase understanding of data curation practices and tools in various disciplines, data types, and formats.
  • Share expertise and enhance curation capacity for librarians nationwide.
  • Meet like-minded colleagues who are interested in building and extending curation practices at their institutions.

Outcomes

Attendees work over a 6 month period to develop a Data Curation Primers that details the curation steps for a particular data type. Primers developed by past workshop attendees are published in GitHub and in our project repository for open access and reuse.
