DCN-32: Data for the manuscript: The effect of spatial and temporal variability in plant functional traits on ecohydrological processes in a desert shrubland: a model-data fusion approach, an earth sciences simulation (NetCDF) dataset, was submitted by Valerie Collins and curated for the DCN by Susan Borda.

Valerie submitted this dataset to the DCN looking for technical (data type) expertise, and Susan was a perfect match for both technical and disciplinary expertise.

This was a high quality dataset and Susan had no significant recommendations, therefore only minimal curation actions were taken (small metadata edits/additions) including linking to the climate model used to generate the data and making small updates to the metadata record and the dataset documentation.

DCN-46: Data for: Probabilistic global maps of crop-specific areas from 1961 to 2014, a civil and environmental engineering simulation (NetCDF) dataset, was submitted by Hoa Luong and curated for the DCN by Katie Wilson

Hoa submitted this dataset to the network looking for technical (data type) expertise, and Katie was both a great fit and available to curate this dataset by the deadline.

This was a high quality dataset and Katie had only minor recommendations, including clarifying an ambiguous variable. Thus, only minor curation actions were necessary (small metadata edits/additions) – the data author accepted Katie’s recommendation to update the dataset documentation to better define the variables.

The purpose of this Dataset Digest series of blog posts is to keep our followers informed and up to date on the curation activities of the DCN! These weekly updates will summarize datasets that have been curated by the network. Once a dataset is “finalized” (curation is complete, any necessary updates or changes have been made, and the dataset has been made publicly available via the local partner repository) we add it to our website and include it in our weekly digest. Thank you for following our progress!
