Minnesota Law Review

Minnesota Law Review is currently closed for submissions. Information regarding submissions to Volume 108 will be posted here in January 2023.

The Minnesota Law Review will consider for publication in its print edition any original work focusing on any topic or field in the law. Citations in all manuscripts should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020). The Minnesota Law Review does not accept submissions from law students.

MLR: Headnotes

Headnotes is currently receiving submissions for Volume 107. If you have a timely article responding to a recent legal development or court opinion, please submit those pieces for consideration to mnlawrev@umn.edu.

General Submission Guidelines

Headnotes is the Minnesota Law Review online companion journal. We welcome any response pieces to recent Articles in our print volume, book reviews, and essays, especially essays on recent legal developments or upcoming court cases.

When submitting to Headnotes, please keep in mind the following:

1. Length of essays should be no longer than 10,000 words, including footnotes. An ideal essay is between 5,000 to 9,000 words.

2. While we do take time-sensitive pieces, please keep in mind that we cannot publish all such pieces we receive due to administrative constraints.

3. Headnotes does not accept pieces from current law students, graduate students, or undergraduate students. It does accept submissions from law school faculty, attorneys, and practitioners.

Citations in all manuscripts should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed. 2020).

Publication Agreements

The Minnesota Law Review offers publication agreements that conform to Open Access Law Journal principles, which give authors great freedom to distribute their works. Please review a copy of our model publication agreement for further information.

The Minnesota Law Review is published six times a year in November, December, February, April, May, and June by the Minnesota Law Review Foundation. Headnotes is published two times a year.
