DCN-49: Silver-ableC: a Silver extension for writing ableC specifications, a computer sciences code dataset, was submitted to the DCN by Wanda Marsolek and curated by Debra Fagan.

Wanda submitted this dataset looking for both technical and disciplinary expertise, and Debra was a perfect match!

Debra’s suggestions included creating additional documentation in the form of a README file, providing additional contextual information and links to relevant outside sources of information in that README file, and clarifying the nature of some of the files including in the dataset.

The researcher agreed with some of Debra’s recommendations and as a result curation minimal (small metadata or documentation edits or additions) were taken and a README was created and included with the dataset.

DCN-61: Data from: Polynomial-Time Statistical Estimation of Species Trees under Gene Duplication and Loss, a code and genomic sequence computer sciences dataset, was submitted to the DCN by Hoa Luong and curated by Seth Erickson.

This dataset had been previously curated by Illinois, but was submitted to the DCN for a second look by someone with more technical expertise. In this case that was Seth!

Seth’s recommendations included creating additional documentation specific to the scripts included in the dataset, as well as including information about the computing environment the scripts were written for and citations to additional software referenced by the scripts.

The researcher agreed with some Seth’s recommendations and as a result minimal curation actions (small metadata or documentation edits or additions) were taken and the documentation was improved.

The purpose of this Dataset Digest series of blog posts is to keep our followers informed and up to date on the curation activities of the DCN! These weekly updates will summarize datasets that have been curated by the network. Once a dataset is “finalized” (curation is complete, any necessary updates or changes have been made, and the dataset has been made publicly available via the local partner repository) we add it to our website and include it in our weekly digest. Thank you for following our progress!
